What managed IT services actually mean

Managed IT means handing day-to-day responsibility for your technology to a provider who is paid to keep it working, not paid when it breaks. Instead of calling someone after a server fails or an employee gets locked out, you get an ongoing partnership. Your computers are monitored around the clock, updates go out on schedule, security tools stay current, and your team has one place to go when they need help.

For growing businesses that are too big to “wing it” but not ready for a full in-house IT department, it’s usually the most cost-effective way to get enterprise-grade IT. SOHO Logics has been providing managed IT services in Dallas since 2000. When you call, you reach an experienced IT professional who already knows your environment, not a call center reading from a script.

What’s included in our managed IT plans

Every plan is built on the same foundation:

  • 24/7 automated monitoring of every managed computer and server, with intelligent alerts when something needs attention.
  • Patch and update management for Windows, Mac and common third-party applications.
  • Managed antivirus and endpoint protection on every device.
  • Automated maintenance that keeps computers fast and healthy.
  • Asset inventory and health reporting, so you always know what you own and what shape it’s in.

Our Business and Premium plans add the hands-on support most companies want:

  • Remote help desk support for covered IT issues, with AI-assisted ticket intake so requests are logged, prioritized and routed quickly.
  • Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace administration and backup, including users, licenses, mailboxes and security settings.
  • Employee onboarding and offboarding, so new hires are productive on day one and departing employees lose access the moment they should.
  • Email security, anti-phishing protection and security-awareness training.
  • Firewall and network management, plus vendor coordination with your internet provider, phone company and software vendors.

Premium goes further, with five hours of on-site support every quarter, priority handling for business-critical incidents, and founder-led quarterly strategy reviews backed by an annual technology budget and roadmap.

Proactive IT beats reactive IT

The traditional “call us when it breaks” model has a built-in conflict of interest: your IT company makes more money when your technology fails. Managed IT flips that. We earn a flat fee whether you have a quiet month or a busy one, so every incentive points toward preventing problems.

In practice, that looks like:

  • A failing hard drive flagged by monitoring and replaced before it takes a workstation down.
  • Security updates installed overnight instead of weeks late.
  • A new employee’s laptop, email and permissions ready before their first morning.
  • Your backup checked every day, not discovered broken on the day you need it.

If you’re weighing the two approaches, our founder’s article on break-fix vs. managed IT walks through the real math.

Who managed IT is a good fit for

Our clients are Dallas-area professional offices, nonprofits and family businesses. Managed IT tends to work especially well for:

  • Professional services firms, such as law, accounting, engineering, insurance and real estate offices, where downtime means lost billable hours.
  • Offices where the office manager became the “IT person” by accident. If that’s you, The Office Manager’s Guide to Outsourcing IT was written for you.
  • Companies with an internal IT person who needs better tools, security help and a second set of hands (often called co-managed IT).
  • Growing businesses adding people, locations or cloud applications, and needing IT that scales without chaos.

Only need help once in a while? On-demand IT support at published hourly rates may be a better fit, and you can move to a plan whenever you’re ready.

Frequently asked questions

How much do managed IT services cost?

Our plans are priced per user, per month, and cover all of that person’s devices. Current prices for all three plans are shown on this page and on our pricing page, and the IT cost estimator will calculate your monthly total in about 30 seconds.

Do we have to sign a long-term contract?

No. We offer month-to-month agreements, as well as annual agreements at a lower rate. We would rather earn your business every month.

Is there a minimum number of users?

Our standard plans start at 10 users. If your team is smaller, contact us for a quote, or consider on-demand IT support at hourly rates.

Do you provide on-site support?

Yes. Most issues are resolved remotely because it’s faster for you. When hands-on work is needed, we come to you. The Premium plan includes five hours of on-site support per quarter, an On-Site Service Pack is available for other plans, and plan clients receive preferred hourly rates.

What isn’t included?

Hardware, software licenses and larger projects, like an office move or a server replacement, are quoted separately. You always get a written quote before any project work begins.

How long does it take to switch from our current IT provider?

Most onboardings are complete within about 30 days. We coordinate with your current provider to collect passwords, documentation and licensing, and we fix urgent issues first.
